Gustavo González de Vega, deputy minister of economy and internationalization of the Government of the Canary Islands, points out that the main objectives are to involve the private sector, include specific projects and provide them with a financial record for their execution. The Steering Group of the Governance System of the Canary Islands Blue Economy Strategy (ECEA), chaired by the vice president and counselor of Economy, Industry, Commerce and the Self-Employed of the Government of the Canary Islands, Manuel Domínguez, recently held the first meeting of the legislature to prepare the actions to be included in the 2024-2026 Work Plan. The document, whose intention is to be approved in March 2024, has three objectives: involve the private sector, include specific projects and provide them with a financial record for their execution. Taking this philosophy into account, the management group committed to working between now and the end of the year to design a plan with clear objectives that represents a qualitative leap to promote the blue economy in the Canary Islands.
Monitoring and Evaluation Report During the session, the first Monitoring and Evaluation Report of the Canary Islands Blue Economy Strategy for the 2022 Annuity was also approved, which includes the activities linked to this sector in the Canary Islands. Cross-cutting and coordinated management The ECEA Governance System was launched after the constitution of the steering group, the management team, the advisory group and six working groups that correspond to the six axes of the ECEA. All of them include multisectoral activities organized to promote the sustainable growth of this sector: Governance, R&D&i, Training and Qualification, Marine Environment and Climate Change, Competitiveness and Maritime Heritage. The importance of this Governance mechanism lies in promoting communication and interdepartmental synergies, which facilitates the transversality and coherence of the actions carried out. The Ministry of Economy, Industry, Commerce and the Self-Employed has relied on the Canary Islands Technological Institute (ITC) since the process of preparing the ECEA, as well as for the implementation and execution of various works.
